rome - xiv bcNobody would say that one can be too rich, especially the members of the Appius, Quintus, and Viducius families. While not all members of the Roman Patrician class, all are incredibly rich. As the centuries have gone by the strain between them has continued to grow, as no one family is truly tops the other. One might have more wealth, but another is more dominant socially. For everything there is a hand off where another family beats them out, and the feud is acknowledged by not only the members of the families themselves, but by regular Roman citizens. The in-game families are completely fictional, and not based on any of the actual prominent Roman families. Instead, they have been created to give writers creative freedom, and to create ties for the members of this group PSL. While creativity is much admired in this game, historical accuracy is, too. appiiThe gens Appii is of Sabine origin, and were members of the founding Roman patrician class in 500 BC. They are advocates of the rights of the plebeians, and many of the laws they aim to pass in the Senate pertain to second order liberties. They're highly respected among the plebs, though it's debatable if the latest generations of the Appii actually care, or just prefer to act like they do. The members of the gens Appii are color coded red if married into other families. - COGNOMEN: Laterensis

quintiThough very important in the past workings of the Empire, lately it seems majority of the gens Quinti is more concerned with elevating their family name than anything. Already patrician's, they can't go much higher, but they do have enough money to close that short distance to get closer with the elite of the elite. The members of the gens Quinti are color coded as green if married into other families. - COGNOMEN: Scaeva

viduciiDescended from an early republican hero, despite their wealth and prestige, the gens Viducii will never move past being plebs. Obviously that isn't something they control considering you can't change family history, but they rival the gens Quinti in terms of ambition. They're determined to not let social status get in the way of their familial success. The members of the gens Viducii are color coded as mulberry if married into other families. - COGNOMEN: Decianus

other familiesIn addition to the three families available, we're also allowing members to bring in husbands and wives for their characters from outside families. Of course pairings can be made between the families in game play, but this area will be used to keep track of family names from the extra male characters. All female characters will be classified alongside their husbands in the general family areas. All "other family" characters will be color coded as grey if married into other families.

applicationTo join ~comitium you need three things: a short character summary, an entry solely for letters and messages, and examples. The summary should include their occupation, position within the family, personality, etc. If you would like to write a character biography in place of the summary you are more than welcome to, but it is not a requirement. Our rules are the same as they would be in any other community. In addition, we don't have an update limit as we hope to see activity through character interaction involving threads, letters, and messages. ( click here for the application! )

holdsHolds will last for 72 hours. Both PB's and family positions can be held. Challenges are not allowed. If you hold with just a position, journal, or PB but do not return with the other within 24 hours, your hold will be cleared. You need all three for your hold to be valid for the entire 72 hours.
